The newly renovated Hector's Restaurant has set a grand opening for Aug. 20. The 5,000-square-foot restaurant was purchased by Stuart McCleod in April. Kirkland's Scott Construction and Chesmore/Buck Architects, along with Seattle-based Stock & Associates, led the renovation team. Peter Carter is the general manager and Kristen Carter is manager. Christopher Nelson, formerly of the Yarrow Bay Grill and Beach Cafe, is the executive chef.
The Portland chapter of the Association of Women in the Metal Industries re-elected Kendra Nelson as president for a two-year term. Kendra has served as the organization's president since January 2002, previously serving as treasurer, scholarship chair, fund-raising co-chair and programs co-chair. Nelson has been an active member for 12 years. She is employed at Stack Metallurgical Services in Portland.
Winn Academy of Music has relocated to the Preston Industrial Park at 8126 304th Ave. S.E. in Issaquah. Winn Academy provides music instruction and performance opportunities to students of all ages. Fran Pope is the academy's dean.
Lisa D. Hardie joined Heller Ehrman White & McAuliffe's Seattle office as associate. Hardie practices in the area of the energy and electric industries. She previously served as a senior associate in the energy department of Fulbright & Jaworski in Austin, Texas.
Matthew Dakotah has been named editorial director at Seattle Homes & Lifestyles. In the new position, Dakotah will team with the magazine's editor in chief, Fred Albright, to redesign the publication for an October debut. Dakotah has been with the magazine's parent company, Wiesner Publishing of Denver, since 2002. He previously headed the redesign of Colorado Homes & Lifestyles and Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles. He most recently served as group editorial director for Homes & Lifestyles Publishing Co.

Boyd Coffee Co. appointed Kenneth Whalen as vice president of direct sales distribution. Whalen joins Boyd with 18 years of experience at PepsiCo Food & Beverage. Whalen will assist in strategic planning, sales development and execution, and distribution of its coffee lines, including Viaggio, Boyds Coffee, Coffee House Roasters and Italia D'Oro Espresso. Boyd has operated in the Pacific Northwest since 1900 and is headquartered on a 30-acre site east of Portland.
Intrepid Learning Solutions, a training outsourcing and consulting services firm, named Marty Murrillo client engagement manager and Darin Hartley director of solutions development. Murrillo, previously with Sun Microsystems, will lead Intrepid's training outsourcing contract with Boeing. Hartley was previously an executive at the American Society for Training and Development, and a senior training manager at Dell.
Vega-Atlantic Corp. of Blaine announced a merger with Transax Limited of Colorado. The company plans a name change to Transax International Limited and a change in business operations to development, acquisition and marketing of information network solutions for healthcare providers and health insurance companies. Transax develops and markets MedLink, a proprietary software system that allows insurance companies to connect to healthcare providers and electronically handle authorization of health claims in real-time.
Henry R. Costantino, Ph.D. has joined Bothell-based Nastech Pharmaceutical Co. as its senior research scientist. Costantino previously held senior scientific positions at Alkermes and Genentech. Nastech develops and markets nasal drug delivery technology.
Heller Ehrman White & McAuliffe named two Seattle senior associates, Rima J. Alaily and David J. Ward as recipients of its Richard E. Guggenhime Pro Bono Award. The award recognizes community service work done by Heller Ehrman attorneys. The firm will donate $5,000 to the organization of each recipient's choice. Alaily and Ward, fifth-year associates in the firm's Seattle office, work with the firm's domestic violence revision team. Michael M. Markman of the firm's Silicon Valley office was also named as an award recipient.
Philip Mote has been named the Washington state climatologist. The position has been vacant since 1998 when Mark Albright, a research meteorologist with the UW atmospheric sciences department resigned the position. Albright will join Mote as associate climatologist. The state climatologist collects and interprets climate data and provides information to the public and private users.
