Ronald M. Johnson, former regional program manager for the U.S. Department of Labor, has become regional director in southwest Washington for the Construction Industry Training Council of Washington. Johnson is in charge of expanding CITC's apprenticeship, craft and task training and continuing education classes throughout southwest and Eastern Washington. CITC has training locations from Bellingham to Vancouver, as well as in Spokane.

Mechanical contractor Holaday-Parks promoted Eric van der Veen to executive vice president, Paul Morris to field superintendent, and hired engineers Yu Fu and Max Greenheck. Van der Veen has been with the company for over 10 years, primarily in HVAC estimating and project management. He is now overseeing its operations, project managers, plumbing/piping and plan/spec divisions. Morris has 20 of years experience in piping systems. Fu has 10 years of industry experience and holds a master's degree in architectural engineering from the University of Kansas. Greenheck graduated from the University of Washington with a bachelor's degree in physics.

Mayes Testing Engineers promoted inspector Don Evans to project manager. Evans has been with the company for nearly 14 years, and has over 25 years of industry experience. His new role includes supervising on-site inspections.

MBA of King and Snohomish Counties

The Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties has hired Jennifer Jerabek as south Snohomish County government affairs manager. Jerabek is providing feedback to local jurisdictions about housing and growth management issues. She previously worked as a salmon recovery planner for the Chelan County Natural Resource Program in Wenatchee. She holds bachelor's degrees in community and environmental planning, and geography, from the University of Washington.

Peter Davis Builders

Mercer Island's Peter Davis Builders has won Remodeling magazine's 2005 Big50 Award. The award goes to 50 remodeling companies nationwide which are leaders in marketing, business practices, design and community involvement.

HighMark Investments

Mike W. Kerby has joined HighMark Investments as president and CEO. Kerby previously was CFO and COO of Sumner-based RCI Construction Group, which was bought earlier this year by Parsons. Kerby also took a partnership position in the new venture. HighMark's chairman is Mark Robison, former owner of RCI. HighMark is investing in several projects, including a joint venture to develop a $30 million resort in Idaho, a project south of downtown Seattle and an office complex in Sumner.

Berschauer Phillips Construction

A Berschauer Phillips Construction Co. project has been selected for a Top Project of 2005 award by the Portland Daily Journal of Commerce. The Olympia-based contractor's project is the Firstenburg Community Center in Vancouver, which is scheduled to open this fall. The building is expected to get a gold LEED rating from the U.S. Green Building Council.

Dunkin & Bush has won several safety awards, including: second place for specialty contractors (300,000-700,000 worker hours) in the AGC/Willis Construction Safety Excellence Awards; the top medium employer in the 2005 (Oregon) Governor's Occupational Safety & Health Conference; the AGC of Oregon Columbia Chapter Recognition of Safety Excellence award; and a U.S. Navy Recognition for Outstanding Safety Performance award. Dunkin & Bush is headquartered in Redmond, Wash., with offices in Portland and other locations.

Nine companies received awards last month in Spokane at the Inland Northwest Associated General Contractors 2005 National AGC Safety Awards ceremony. The winners included: AM Landshaper; Cameron Contracting; Dix Corp.; Garco Construction; George A. Grant Inc.; Graham Construction and Management; Hite Crane and Rigging; Robert B. Goebel, General Contractor; and Woodard Construction.
