In the week ending June 13, more than 554,000 people in the U.S. filed claims for jobless benefits. For the sake of these applicants, I sure hope they avoid being put through the wringer like Stephanie Monroe.
In June 2004, Monroe started working as a legal secretary for The Markham Group, Inc., a law firm in Spokane. She was fired two years later because she couldn't perform her job as required by her employer. Monroe then filed for unemployment benefits with Washington's Employment Security Department.
