Where will all that tunnel dirt end up?

  • Several companies around Puget Sound use excavation spoils to rehabilitate their quarries.

    Excavated dirt from Sound Transit’s Capitol Hill station project is being trucked to sites in Monroe, North Bend, Issaquah and Auburn. About 41,000 cubic yards has been removed so far.

    To the contractor go the spoils — from the holes they excavate, the tunnels they bore and the land they clear. How they decide to dispose of the dirt can save or cost them thousands of dollars.
