Valley Electric

Darlene Zook has joined Valley Electric as a project manager in its Seattle construction department. Zook brings over 25 years of electrical industry experience, specializing in the medical and health care industry, along with industrial and commercial projects. Her primary responsibility will be development of Valley’s healthcare projects.

KJM & Associates

The Dallas office of KJM & Associates has hired Jeff Werner as a senior scheduler, and Lona Smith and Teresa Zunker as document control managers. Werner will be working on the Dallas Independent School District Facilities project. He has 27 years of experience and is enrolled in the executive MBA program in project management at the University of Texas. Smith and Zunker are both working on the Central Texas Turnpike project. Smith has more than 23 years of records management expertise. Zunker has over five years of records and document management experience, plus eight years in technical writing and policy/procedures guideline development. KJM is headquartered in Bellevue.

Osborne Construction Co.

Osborne Construction Co. has promoted Mike Ritchie to vice president of operations in its Alaska division. Ritchie began his career with Osborne in 1980. Over the years, he has managed numerous projects in both Washington and Alaska, and is currently in charge of the Fort Wainwright replacement housing project. Osborne also announced Gary Bain has returned as senior project manager in Alaska. The company is based in Kirkland and has two Alaska offices, in Anchorage and Fairbanks.

Young & Roehr Group

Young & Roehr Group named Ann Steffora senior account executive and Venera Cushman account executive in its public relations team. Most recently, Steffora served as managing editor for the online publication EDAVision and Cushman was an account executive at the public relations agency Armstrong Kendal. Young & Roehr is an employee-owned, full-service, business-to-business marketing communications agency, based in Portland.

Seattle Chocolates

Jean Thompson is the new CEO of Seattle Chocolates. Thompson was corporate communications manager at Microsoft from 1987-1991 and has recently been volunteering in the educational, nonprofit and civic communities, including the Bellevue School District, the Overlake Service League and the Yarrow Point.

Williams Controls

Williams Controls of Portland named Donn Viola a member of its board of directors. He will replace Timothy Itin who recently resigned. Viola was COO of the Donnelly Corp. prior to its acquisition by Magan International last year. Williams Controls is a designer, manufacturer and integrator of sensors and controls for the transportation industry.

Washington Technology Center

The Washington Technology Center recently awarded $668,000 to projects teaming six Washington companies with university researchers through its Research and Technology Development program. Receiving funding are Survival, Inc. of Seattle; Sterling International of Spokane; VizX Labs of Seattle; InnovaTek of Richland; and Intelligent Ion of Seattle. The companies are working with researchers from either Washington State University or the University of Washington. The projects include manufacturing pest control products, developing diesel fuel processors, better armor, asphalt that hardens under traffic, disease control and miniature mass spectrometers.

The Unity Group

Jon Scott joined The Unity Group as employee benefit specialist. Scott was previously a regional sales manager for NYL Care and has worked as an independent agent for PacificCare and Providence. The Unity Group is based in Bellevue, with offices in Sedro-Woolley and Lynden.

Carney Badley Spellman

Jason W. Anderson and Timothy C. Layton have joined the law firm of Carney Badley Spellman as associates, and Kenneth S. Kagan, of counsel, was named a shareholder. Anderson, who has a focus on civil litigation, previously was a clerk for the Honorable David H. Armstrong and the Honorable J. Robin Hunt. Layton joins the firm's government affairs group and most recently worked for the law firm Hogan & Hartson in Virginia. Kagan joined Carney Badley Spellman in 1999.

Washington State Developmental Disabilities Council

The Washington State Developmental Disabilities Council selected five projects as part of its Inclusive Communities program that helps people with developmental disabilities become more involved in their communities. Grants of $40,000 were awarded to First Step Family Support Center in Port Angeles, Vashon Island Inclusive Communities Network, VSA arts of Washington and Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital’s Parent-to-Parent Program. The Elmview Transportation Project in Ellensburg received a $25,780 grant.

Lynden Air Freight

Lynden Air Freight named Randy Main account executive in its Anchorage office. Main was formerly Alaska territory account executive for AT&T Wireless. Lynden Air freight is based in Seattle.
