Wine grape growers Bill and Andy Den Hoed announce the debut of Den Hoed Wine Estates in partnership with Long Shadows Founder Allen Shoup and Boudreaux Cellers owner Rob Newsom. Together, they will release the 2005 Den Hoed Marie's View red blend and the 2006 Den Hoed Andreas Cabernet Sauvignon. They have worked on this project since establishing a joint venture in 2005. The wines are named after the Den Hoed's parents, Dutch immigrants who began farming in Washington state in the 1950s.

Immunologist Estelle Bettelli has been hired at the Benaroya Research Institute at Virginia Mason as an assistant member. Bettelli has dedicated most of her career to understanding the immunological issues of multiple sclerosis. She was recently an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School.
Foster Pepper Of Counsel Judy Runstad and her husband Jon Runstad were recognized by the University of Washington and the University of Washington Foundation with the Gates Volunteer Service Award. This award is presented annually to honor individuals whose volunteer efforts have encouraged others to support the University of Washington through time, service and philanthropy.
Pioneer Human Services, a Seattle-based regional nonprofit social-enterprise organization, was honored with the Friend of Housing Organization Achievement Award from the Washington State Housing Finance Commission. Pioneer received the annual award for expanding affordable housing.
