Food Lifeline

Food Lifeline, a hunger-relief organization in Washington, announced its president and CEO, Linda Nageotte, is the recipient of the national Award for Executive Director of the Year from Feeding America. The award honors the leader of a Feeding America network member, which includes more than 200 hunger-relief organizations throughout the nation. Nageotte has spent 12 years at Food Lifeline.

KBS Capital Markets Group

Rigo Medina, an internal sales associate at KBS Capital Markets Group, has been appointed KBS-CMG regional vice president of the Pacific Northwest region. He will be responsible for developing and managing broker/dealer and registered investment advisor relationships in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and Alaska on behalf of KBS Real Estate Investment Trusts. KBS-CMG is based in Newport Beach, Calif.

City of Seattle

Mayor Mike McGinn has appointed Seattle University Law Professor Christian Halliburton to join the city's Public Safety Civil Service Commission. The commission administers the civil service system for Seattle police officers and firefighters, and hears appeals in disciplinary actions. The three members are appointed by the mayor, city council and city employees. Halliburton replaces commissioner Herb Johnson. His term will end on Dec. 31, 2012.

Seattle Goodwill

The Seattle Goodwill board of directors has named Broderick Smith as a member. Smith is vice president of Urban Visions, a privately held real estate development and brokerage company. He is the grandson of H. Martin Smith Jr., who served on Goodwill's board of directors from 1991 to 1999.

City of Seattle

Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn announced Darwyn Anderson will serve as Seattle's acting personnel director. Anderson has served in the city for 16 years and has worked in the Office for Civil Rights and the Parks and Recreation Department. He replaces Mark McDermott, who resigned as personnel director to become regional representative of the U.S. Department of Labor, based in Seattle.

Albers & Co.

Albers & Co., a Tacoma-based insurance and financial services company, hired Ryan Gowin to its advisory team. Gowin has 13 years of experience and recently worked for Aetna.

Distressed Properties: Fact or Fiction

NAIOP's South Sound meeting on May 14 will be on “The Emerging Market of Distressed Properties: Fact or Fiction” at the Hotel Murano, 1320 Broadway Plaza, Tacoma, starting at 7:30 a.m. The panel will be Heather Burgess of Eisenhower Carlson, Dan Balmelli of Barghausen Engineering, Rick Sanders of Orion Real Estate Advisors, Marc Nemirow of Benaroya Capital and Andy McDonald of Columbia Bank. Cobalt Mortgage

Cobalt Mortgage said three of its loan officers — Ann Liberato, Jeff Bell and Jeff Tisdale — were on the list of top loan originators for 2009. Kirkland-based Cobalt said it is the largest privately owned mortgage banking firm in Washington. It has 10 additional branch locations on the West Coast.

NAIOP

NAIOP South Sound and the Developing Leaders group will meet today at Masa Restaurant in Tacoma's Sixth Avenue entertainment district for drinks, appetizers and conversation. Cost is $15 for members and $20 for non-members. This is the first of a series of NAIOP networking events for 2010. The Developing Leaders will coordinate transportation to the event from Seattle. Cushman & Wakefield

Cushman & Wakefield said its world headquarters at 1290 Avenue of the Americas in New York received LEED gold certification. The building has a 30 percent reduction in water usage and a 25 percent reduction in lighting power density below ASHRAE standards. More than 75 percent of construction waste from the build-out was diverted from landfills and the furniture is made from more than 20 percent recycled content. An education plan will inform employees, clients and visitors about the sustainability measures.

SMBA

The Seattle Mortgage Bankers Association has two events planned for May. The Income Property lunch will be Tuesday, May 4, with Gary Danklefson, managing director at Jones Lang LaSalle. The last dinner meeting for the season will be May 18.
