Anyone seeking tips on how to make a bold entrance should contact Joel Gamel. The Miami developer made a splash when he bought the Athena apartments for $21 million. Fifteen minutes after the contract was signed, 50 workers descended on the property in the Uptown neighborhood of Seattle to begin $500,000 worth of improvements.
Call it condo conversion, Gamel-style. Miami's South Beach knows all about it, and Seattle can expect to see more of it. It's made up of equal parts confidence, tenacity and speed. When Gamel sees a good bet, he pounces.
