Windermere

Geoff Wood was promoted from president to chief executive officer of Windermere Real Estate. Matt Carroll moved up to become executive vice president and a member of the senior executive committee, while Jim Shapiro went from CEO to the semi-retired role of vice chairman. Shapiro will work with founder and Chairman John Jacobi on shaping the company's vision. Wood, who is Jacobi's son-in-law, has been president for the past four years. Carroll is a 25-year veteran of the business who has been working as general manager of the five Windermere offices in Seattle that are owned by the Jacobi family. Wood's wife, Jill Jacobi-Wood, oversees the five family-owned Seattle offices. O.B. Jacobi, Jill Jacobi-Wood's brother, takes over management of one of those offices, in Wedgwood. As executive vice president, Carroll is responsible for real estate services, owner relations and business planning for Windermere’s 220 offices across seven western states and British Columbia, reporting to Wood.

Westlake Associates

The Seattle brokerage of Westlake Associates hired four senior associates since the start of the year: Joshua Blake, Matt Weber, Scott Wilme and Ryan Downing. Blake, whose family is in apartment development, will work in apartment sales. Weber, also an apartment broker, has worked as an apartment investor.

Two forums on housing discrimination

The Fair Housing Center of South Puget Sound will hold two public forums in June in Seattle to gather information for an analysis of fair housing to present to city officials. The group seeks input from home buyers, renters, landlords, property managers, Realtors, service providers who work with clients represented by protected classes, lenders, elected officials and anybody who has experienced housing discrimination. The first forum is scheduled for June 16 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Fremont Public Association, 1501 N. 45th St. The second is June 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the New Holly Neighborhood Campus, 7050 32nd Ave. For information, or to submit written comments, call the Fair Housing Center toll-free at (888) 766-8800.

Faith-based approach to home ownership

First AME Church in Seattle will provide a faith-based approach to becoming a home owner at a free workshop scheduled for June 28. The church, the Urban League of Metropolitan Seattle and Countrywide Home Loans will "show renters how they can afford to buy a home" at the event from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. It will be held at the church, 1522 14th Ave. Breakfast will be served before the event and child care will be provided. John L. Scott

Six sales associates joined John L. Scott Real Estate's Redmond office: Natasha Portugal, Andrijana Tomic, Yulia Billig, James Terrovona, Kim Prince and Keith Drechsel. The Laurelhurst office added Catherine Sherman. Lynnwood Center hired Cynthia Chang and Staci McFadden. John Perigard joined the Port Orchard office. Four started in the Renton office: Sherry Lane, Molly Mason, Shirley Easton and Christina Easton.

Charity corner

Windermere Real Estate will hold its company-wide "community service day" on Friday, June 20. Windermere employees will help paint and repair schools, day cares, a teen services center and a park's hillside.

  • Windermere Capitol Hill will paint the entry and two classrooms, and other projects, at Bailey-Gatzert Elementary School in Seattle.

  • Windermere Eastlake will landscape, clean and paint at Seward School in Eastlake.

  • Windermere Lakeview will landscape and clean classrooms at B.F. Day School on Linden Avenue.

  • Windermere Lake Forest Park will do the same at Teen Hope Safe Home for teen-age victims of family problems in Shoreline and restore a hillside at Grace Cole Nature Park in Lake Forest Park.

  • Windermere Madison Park will build a playhouse and clean up a playground at Community Day Center for Children on 22nd Avenue in the Central District.

NAIOP will tour South Lake Union

This year's National Association of Industrial and Office Properties tour will look at Seattle's South Lake Union area on Thursday, June 12. The event runs from noon to 4:30 p.m., with an hour of registration beforehand at Fisher Plaza and a reception until 6 p.m. afterward at Experience Music Project. The deadline for registration is today, and the annual tour usually sells out. Call NAIOP at (206) 382-0121.

Realtors to brief politicians on housing

The Seattle-King County Association of Realtors will hold its annual politician briefings on housing issues and the state of the housing market next week. "The two-hour sessions are designed to give candidates and local elected officials an overview of the local residential real estate market and to provide them with comprehensive housing-related resource materials," the association says. Each session runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and includes lunch. The first is in Bellevue on Monday at the Bellevue Library, 1111 110th Ave. N.E. The second is Tuesday in Renton at the Fairwood Library, 17009 140th S.E. (this is moved from an earlier plan to hold it in Kent). The third is Thursday at the Shoreline Library, 345 N.E. 175th. The fourth is Friday in Seattle's Central District in the Miller Community Center, 330 19th Ave. E. For information, call (425) 820-3277.

Apartment sales roundup

Here are some of the latest apartment building sales recorded, and reported, by some of the area's brokerages:

  • The six-unit Sound Breeze Apartments at 5034 Fauntleroy Way S.W. in West Seattle went for $660,000. Robert Forgie sold to David Rogge, with Marcus & Millichap brokers George Miller and Armand Tiberio putting the deal together.

  • The 21-unit Emerald Village apartments at 5610 Boston Avenue S.W. in Tacoma sold for $577,900. The seller was an individual from Napavine, Lewis County. The buyer was Emerald Village Apartments LLC of Redmond. Brokers Tim Ufkes and Robin Hays of Hendricks & Partners assembled the deal.

  • A six-unit building at 3948 N.W. Munson St. in Silverdale sold for $465,000. Gael B. Geniesse sold to Brian Bowman. Marcus & Millichap's Larry Corkins represented Bowman.

  • The 129-unit Ponderosa Apartments at 9314 E. Montgomery Ave. in Spokane sold for $3.77 million. The seller was Ponderosa Operating Partnership of Tacoma. The buyer was Cedar Oceanview Partners LP of Thousand Oaks, Calif. Hendricks & Partners' Robert Di Pietrae arranged the transaction. The Ponderosa operates under a HUD Section 8 subsidy program that benefits seniors.

  • Tim Travaille paid the Chan Family Trust $2.23 million for the Riverton Ridge Apartments at 3900 Southcenter Blvd. in Tukwila. Dan Swanson of Marcus & Millichap represented the trust and M&M's Elie Pieprz worked for Travaille.

    And one retail deal: A retail center in Graham, Pierce County, sold for $1.05 million. Marc Y. Bhend sold Graham Village at 22007 Meridian Ave. E. to John Langkow. Marcus & Millichap broker Scott Bartmess represented Bhend.

    Six people became sales associates in John L. Scott Real Estate's Everett office: Ronald Lahusen, Kim Mackey, Lauren Stanley, Judy Castro, Joan Wood and Brett Stensrude. Three started in Arlington: Sarah Pust, Gary Huot and Phyllis Rothwell. At Lynnwood Center, Kalen Randall and Shannon Simms became new sales associates. Sam Keller and June Johnson started in the Woodinville office.

    The Highlands office added Alicia Savery and Clayton Walker. Glenda Babauta, Dave Hackett, Avo Nazarian and Vera Angela Nazarian joined the Kent office. Kent North added Adam Johnson and Mary Rooth. In Kirkland, Carmela Waldron, Kevin Thompson, Bethany Dobrus, Rachael Morales and Mary DeLancy became sales associates.
