Residential Exterior (Washington) -- Medina residence

Phampena installed new EIFS on this Medina home.

Location: Medina

Contractor: Phampena Inc.

Architect: Olson Kundig Architects

Team: Evergreen Building Products; Sto Corp.

Originally, this private home was built in the early 1990s with a traditional, barrier-type exterior insulation and finishing system. Architect Olson Kundig and GLY Construction were asked to do a total remodel and recladding.

The job involved removing the old EIFS and replacing it with Sto Corp. products, including StoTherm Lotusan Next EIFS, which has super-hydrophobic properties. Phampena was chosen to install the Sto system.

The crew first applied Sto Gold Coat to create a complete air- and weather-barrier system. Then the crew used a Sto TurboStick to apply expanded polystyrene adhesive in vertical beads to create drainage for the EIFS. Finally, Sto heavy-duty mesh was applied for a high-impact result.

Three Sto custom colors tinted by Evergreen Building Products were used for the finish coat.

Judge’s comment: “The product research prior to beginning the project definitely paid off. This research combined with exceptional workmanship resulted in an exterior wall system that gives this existing residence a clean new look with the exceptional insulating values provided by EIFS.”
