Management by Design: What 'pocket cultures' exist in your company?

  • Most corporations are not one big happy family, but 'pocket cultures' -- even negative ones -- can be assets.

    What is the dominant culture in your office? Business theory supposes that the culture sets the tone for all the people in the organization.

    However, a uniform corporate culture is only possible in small companies. In all other organizations there cannot be one culture; there are several. Each culture is a small group of between two to 20 people, who work closely and tend to band together with a common mindset. I call these small groups "pocket cultures."
