Sumas Elementary School is a new 47,476-square-foot public school in Sumas built for the Nooksack Valley School District. Along with the construction of the new building came the demolition of the old school building and site work for new parking lots, bus turnarounds and landscaping.

Located in a residential neighborhood, the project also utilized an existing auxiliary gymnasium, built an outdoor playing pavilion and installed a new playground — all available for public use. The school itself includes a cafeteria, gym, library, curriculum room and several offices and classrooms on each of the two floors. The school is wood-frame construction atop cast-in-place concrete crawlspace walls with perimeter flood vents to accommodate potential passage of water under the building. The new gymnasium and auxiliary gymnasium double as rentable space for public athletic programs.
