Merritt+Pardini

Merritt+Pardini recently announced that David Pool and Marcelo Rocha have joined the firm. Pool is a project architect with eight years of experience, with educational, industrial, corporate office and recreational facilities. Pool is currently project architect for the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, Jefferson Elementary School in Port Angeles and a feasibility study for a multi-family housing project for the Biltmore Corp.

Rocha joined the firm as a designer with eight years of experience in both architecture and interior/industrial design. Rocha is currently involved in a feasibility study for a co-development hotel for the Greater Tacoma Convention Center and the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey.

Ellis Paguirigan

Kanani Miranda has joined the staff of Ellis Paguirigan Designs (EPD), an Olympia-based branding and design agency. Miranda fills the newly created position of assistant graphic designer. She comes to EPD from Kelly Printing & Graphics, Auburn, where she managed the pre-press and graphic design department.

With a presence in Olympia since 1992, Ellis Paguirigan Designs is a leading design company in the South Sound area. Specializing in brand identity and development, the award-winning agency provides a full-range of design services.

ACEC

Gary R. Bourne, senior vice president of Berryman & Henigar, is the new president of the American Council of Engineering Companies of Washington (ACEC Washington), formerly the Consulting Engineers Council of Washington (CECW). Bourne, a civil engineer and land surveyor, has served as a director for the organization and participated on various committees since 1988. In addition to his roles at Berryman & Henigar and ACEC, Bourne serves as a city engineer for medium-sized cities. The officers and directors who will serve with Bourne include: president-elect Paul Masten; national director Jerry Williams; vice presidents Kris Betty and John Rowland; and directors Mark Aronson, Ralph Boirum, Jorge Garcia, Jim Miller and Kathy Robertson.

The American Council of Engineering Companies of Washington is a professional trade association representing 200 consulting engineering, land surveying and affiliated scientific and planning firms statewide. Bill Garrity continues his tenure as executive director.

DLR Group

DLR Group has recently appointed two principals, seven senior associates and eight associates.

Steven McKay, an architectural designer with eight years of experience, has been appointed principal. McKay has worked on several significant DLR Group projects, including the award-winning Ala Moana Shopping Center expansion in Honolulu. As principal in the firm, McKay will lead the design effort in DLR Group's retail studio.

With eight years experience as a mechanical engineer, Kimberly Paulson, is the first female engineer to be appointed principal in DLR Group, and the youngest woman in the firm to achieve such recognition. In addition to serving as project engineer, Paulson manages projects for high-profile clients including Boeing and Amazon.com.

Paulson will lead DLR Group's team of engineers in the Pacific Northwest. New senior associates include: Ivan Chabra, who is working on Meeker Middle School, Madrona K-8 and Mariner High School. Scott Haas earned the title of senior associate and is working as the construction administrator for Emerson Elementary School and the State Patrol Crime Lab. Jim Petrich, project manager, is managing projects for the Oregon Department of Corrections and the city of Everett. Kay Zovanyi, is an interiors architect and designer with experience in corporate, retail, education, and housing. Zovanyi is contributing to projects for the Mukilteo School District, Verizon Wireless and Fry's Electronics. New associates include: Larry Ahern; Cathy Augustin; Todd Ferking; Tonya Giebel; George Goodfellow, Ahmed Jaddi; Rick Peters; and Marco Rodriguez.

Lane Powell Spears Lubersky

J. Duncan Findlay joined the law firm of Lane Powell Spears Lubersky as partner in its Seattle office. Most recently, Findlay served as president of the engineering, geotechnical and natural resources consulting firm of Shannon & Wilson. He will concentrate his practice on the business operations of design professionals, emphasizing loss prevention practices, financial operation and contracting for design and construction of large private and public infrastructure projects. Findlay will continue to serve on Shannon & Wilson's board of directors.

Charter Bank

Randy Jansons has joined Charter Bank as an assistant vice president and relationship manager in its Redmond office. Prior to this position, he was employed at Western Bank and KeyBank.

Atlas Venture

Atlas Venture has added Christian Metcalfe to the firm as an analyst in its Seattle office. Metcalfe previously held the position of vice president of operations for Iz, Inc.

Association of Washington Business

Tom Lemly, chair of the Association of Washington Business's human resources council, received the 2001 Fred Bruhn Award and Kathleen Collins received this year's Ron Gjerde Award. Lemly is a partner in the Davis Wright Tremaine law firm. Collins is a contract lobbyist in Olympia. The Bruhn Award honors Safeco senior vice president Fred Bruhn and is presented in recognition of board members who give of themselves to improve AWB and the business climate in Washington. The Gjerde Award honors the year's top business lobbyist.

TVSea

The city of Seattle's government access channel, TVSea, collected eight awards at September's National Association of Telecommunications Officers and Advisors Conference, in Miami. The station was honored with its most prestigious award: First Place for Overall Excellence in Government Programming. Specific awards honored programming titles "Just Like Noah," "Stuwe'yug w" and "Experience This!" TVSea's Web site (http://www.cityofseattle.net/tvsea) was awarded second place for all government channel Web sites

McGowan Broz

Bill Broz, manager of mechanical engineering at McGowan Broz Engineers, recently earned his certification as a LEEDTM accredited professional. Certification under the LEEDTM (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) program signifies expertise in all aspects of sustainable design, and is awarded by the U. S. Green Building Council. Bellevue-based McGowan Broz Engineers, a 20-person mechanical and electrical engineering firm, has several projects on the boards currently slated for LEEDTM certification, including the new Capitol Hill Library for Seattle Public Libraries; the Terminal Radar Approach Control Facility (TRACON) for the Federal Aviation Administration; and the International District Village Square Phase 2 mixed-use development
