Bruce Arnold, Bill Bernstein and David Sorey have become senior associates. Arnold has been with the firm for four years. His expertise includes museums and cultural centers, visitor centers, music centers, and urban architectural projects.
Bernstein has been with Jones & Jones for two years. He specializes in small- and large-scale public and private projects, including park and recreation planning, land master planning, and zoo design. Sorey has been at the firm for 14 years. He has experience in roads and related transportation issues, park and recreation projects, visual and environmental resource protection, and open space designs.
Nathaniel Cormier, Mark Johnson and Osama Quotah have become associate IIIs. Cormier's work focuses on ecological design and planning visions, restoring natural processes and habitats, designing sustainable communities and leading community-based design projects. Johnson integrates innovation and art. Quotah's architectural work has included a diverse range of projects both in the U.S. and abroad that have focused on sustainability, cultural sensitivity and community-based design solutions.
Pamela Morris Shields has been promoted to marketing director. Shields has been with Jones & Jones for three years. Her work includes managing all marketing efforts and overseeing public and media relations.
In 2003, Jones & Jones was the first recipient of the American Society of Landscape Architects Firm Award.

Hoglund-Gray's project experience spans 25 years and involves transportation and development projects. Most recent notable experience includes project manager for civil engineering services for Microsoft's 300-acre main campus, Safeco's Redmond campus expansion and the Houser Way bypass in Renton. Prior to joining Parametrix, Hoglund-Gray was employed by Entranco.
URS Corp. made several staff additions to its Seattle and Lakewood offices:
Kris Guttormsen, senior project manager, joins the wastewater group. Guttormsen has 30 years of experience providing treatment plant and conveyance system design and planning for municipalities and special purpose districts throughout Northwest.
Tom Tomczyk, senior project manager, specializes in UXO (unexploded ordinance) investigation and remediation and most recently participated in the successful investigation and cleanup of Adak Island for the Navy.
Mary Lou Sullivan rejoins the federal environmental group. Most recently she provided health and safety support to engineering field activity Northwest-U.S. Navy in Poulsbo.
Christopher L. J. Dowell, senior architect, joins the airport services group. Dowell has 20 years of experience with design for transportation, office, high-tech, higher education and residential facilities.
David Laielli, senior architect, has 20 years of experience in a variety of commercial, institutional and transportation facilities. Recently he has been project architect for several securities related planning and renovation projects for the Port of Seattle.
Daniel Tauber, senior architect, joins the airport services group. He has 10 years of experience in the design of airport, commercial and industrial facilities in more than a dozen states.
Selene Fisher, senior civil engineer, specializes in hydraulics and hydrology. She is experienced in a variety of water resources engineering projects in urban, estuarine and riverine settings.
John Caswell, project mechanical engineer, Mark Gagnon and Sam Reid, senior CADD specialists, join URS aviation. Dean Lanouette, senior estimator, joins URS construction in the Lakewood office, and Marci Williams also joins the URS Lakewood office as senior office assistant.
Northwest Hospital & Medical Center added Richard T. Bouche to the hospital staff as a podiatrist. Bouche, whose practice is located at the Sports Medicine Clinic in North Seattle, specializes in reconstructive foot and ankle surgery and small joint anthroscopy. Northwest Hospital is located in Seattle.

Effective Jan. 31, Emerald City Moving & Storage's warehouse and storage operations will be located at 20024 87th Ave. S. in Kent. On March 1, the administrative and sales offices will relocate to the same address. Prior to those dates all operations are located at 18516 80th Ave. S. in Kent. All phone numbers, fax numbers and e-mail addresses will remain the same.
AVHQ Rental Services, a Long Beach, Calif.-based company that provides audiovisual equipment and expertise, named Michael F. Dodd regional vice president of sales and operations. Dodd, who will serve the western states, is the former vice president of sales at Audio Visual Innovations. AVHQ is a part of Audio Visual Services Corp., which is also based in Long Beach.

William Demmert, a professor in the education department at Western Washington University, will receive the Seattle Pacific University medallion award for his work in the field of Native American education. The medallion is awarded to SPU alumni who have served the university and community with special commitment. Prior to his career at WWU, Demmert was commissioner of education in Alaska, director of education for the Bureau of Indian Affairs and dean of the University of Alaska in Juneau.
The Washington State Chiropractic Association named Lori Bielinski, lobbyist and membership director, executive director. Before joining the WSCA three years ago, Bielinski was a senior policy analyst for former Washington State Insurance Commissioner Deborah Senn. The WSCA is a statewide association that represents the chiropractic profession in Washington.
Charlie Kleier was named partner at Norris Beggs & Simpson, a Portland-based commercial real estate firm. Kleier operates out of the firm's Vancouver office and will remain an active broker under the title of executive vice president.
Pacific Market International, a Seattle-based designer, manufacturer and marketer of insulated food and beverage containers, hired three new employees. Shelly Zhao, Asia brand business manager, will be based in Shanghai, China. Jill Lewis, sales manager, and Fred Cramer, quality engineer, will be based in Seattle.
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation named Greg Shaw director of Foundation, Library and Pacific Northwest Advocacy and director of the Pacific Northwest Program. Shaw is a former partner at Shepardson Stern & Kaminsky, a communications consulting firm. The foundation, led by William H. Gates, Sr., is based in Seattle and is dedicated to improving global health and learning.
The ABC of Western Washington is holding a Feb. 11 seminar on insurance and bond renewals and reviews. It will be presented by a panel that includes Jeff Stewart of McDonald's Insurance Group, Larry Newton of Bush Cotton & Scott, Ed Bennett of Insurance Company of the West, Tina Houston of Crump Northwest, Paul Cressman of Short Cressman & Burgess, and Karen Say of Saybr Contractors. It will be held 8 a.m.-noon at ABC's Bellevue office. Cost is $79 for members and $158 for non-members. Additional attendees from the same member firm are $20 each. Lydig Construction has been named Overall Winner in the 2003 Better Workplace Awards by the Association of Washington Business. Award categories included workplace safety, job training and advancement, and innovative benefit and compensation programs. The Spokane-based contractor was chosen as one of two overall winners for outstanding performance in all three categories.
