The Young Lawyers Division of the King County Bar Association presented its 2009 Mentor of the Year Award to Beth Ginsberg of Stoel Rives. The annual award recognizes outstanding contributions to the teaching, training and professional development of young lawyers. Ginsberg is a partner in the firm whose practice focuses on environmental, wildlife and natural resource litigation, permitting and counseling for both public and private interests.
Bainbridge Island-based Teragren, a manufacturer of bamboo flooring, panels and veneer, promoted Mike Boshart to executive vice president. Boshart was formerly vice president, marketing.
Puget Sound Blood Center hired David Fennell as its first chief information officer. Fennell was CIO for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Prior to that, he spent 28 years at Boeing Commercial Airplanes, the last five of which he served as CIO and vice president, Boeing Information Technology.

The King County Bar Association's Young Lawyer Division awarded Greg Guedel its Outstanding Mentor Award for 2009. Guedel is an attorney with Foster Pepper and works as an advocate for the firm's pro bono program, especially as it relates to the Native American Legal Practice Group.
King County Executive Dow Constantine appointed Ken Nakatsu director of the Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention. Nakatsu managed the Flood Preparedness Unit in the Facilities Management Division for the past six months and previously served as chief of departmental operations for the Seattle Mayor's Office. He replaces Kathleen Van Olst who is returning to the Prosecuting Attorney's Office, where she will work on elder abuse, neglect and economic fraud.
Poncho, which stands for Patrons of Northwest Civic, Cultural and Charitable Organizations, named Lorna Kneeland executive director. Kneeland began working with Poncho as a consultant. She has 12 years experience in sales and marketing management and recently led fundraising for the Marsh Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer Research.
Robison Mechanical of Bremerton hired Jack Cannon as senior project manager. Cannon has more than 25 years of mechanical construction and project management experience. He previously worked at McKinstry. For Robison, he is managing a project at Green River Community College for John Korsmo Construction and the new SCORE jail in Des Moines for Lydig Construction.
Lori Wehmhoefer, head contract administrator at Pease Construction, recently became a LEED Green Associate. Wehmhoefer, who has been with Pease since 1986, manages all of the company's sustainability and LEED procedures. She played a key role in achieving LEED gold certification for the Early Learning Center at Tacoma Community College.
The U.S. Coast Guard awarded a regional multiple award construction contract to the joint venture of Schlecht Construction of Kelso and Bergerson Construction of Astoria, Ore. The contract specifies that Schlecht/Bergerson JV may be awarded projects within districts 11 and 13, which encompass Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Arizona, Utah, California, Nevada and Montana. Contracts may include general construction, marine construction, demolition, design-build, renovation and historical restoration. Schlecht/Bergerson was one of 16 companies to qualify for the contracts in districts 11 and 13. The Coast Guard estimates contract awards will total $50 million to $100 million per year for the next five years in the districts.
Bainbridge Island's PHC Construction has affiliated with Butler Manufacturing, a maker of metal building systems, to become a Butler Builder. The contractor will pursue projects throughout Kitsap, Clallam, Jefferson, Grays Harbor and Mason counties with the Butler system. PHC will also use Butler's standing-seam metal roof system on a number of construction projects, including the new Kid's Discovery Museum on Bainbridge Island.
The South Sound Chapter of the Construction Financial Management Association is offering up to $2,000 in scholarships for high achieving students majoring in accounting or finance. Corvallis, Ore.-based Greenberry Industrial opened an office Ontario, Calif., to better serve that state. Greenberry provides mechanical, structural and civil construction and fabrication services. The new office is the company's fifth on the West Coast, including one in Washington state in Burlington.
