Earlier this month on a very rainy day, a few hundred real estate professionals — plus random journalists and civic officials — gathered at the Hyatt at Olive 8 for the annual Emerging Trends conference. It was Nov. 9, the morning after Election Day, and the mood was both somber and slightly incredulous. Hangovers likely abounded. Eyes were sleepless, red and bloodshot.
An orange-skinned, flaxen-haired former New York real estate developer, lately turned to branding, Twitter and reality TV, had just been elected president. What was the world coming to? And, more important, what did it mean for the real estate business?
