Boeing Capital

Russ Young has been appointed director of communications for Boeing Capital Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of the Boeing Co. Young has been with Boeing for the past 15 years, most recently leading communications on the Sonic Cruiser program. Young will be based in Boeing Capital's Renton headquarters. Boeing Capital provides lease and loan financing for commercial aircraft, commercial equipment, corporate aircraft, and space and defense products.

Nicastro looks at adding apartments

A Seattle City Council committee will take public comments Monday, Oct. 29, about modifying city code to allow adding one apartment to existing apartment buildings, regardless of density.

"This provision will only apply to structures that can accommodate an additional residential unit without expanding the existing building envelope," said Landlord/Tenant and Land Use Committee Chairwoman Judy Nicastro. The public hearing will start at 4:30 p.m. in the Council Chamber. For information, contact Jill Berkey in Nicastro's office at (206) 684-8806.

Laura Domoto of Seneca Real Estate Group will review an array of area public and private projects her firm is guiding at the Commercial Real Estate Women's Nov. 8 lunch meeting. Domoto will talk about the temporary central library in the downtown Seattle convention center expansion, the planned new library, the Getty Images building in Fremont, the Star Building, PATH's new structure, work at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Safeco Field, the new aquarium and Children's Hospital's expansion. Later in November, Crew will hear from Irene Leonard King, a professional development coach, on "what it takes and what holds us back from promoting ourselves." King worked as a real estate and corporate attorney in Canada and then the U.S. from 1979 to 1997, when she switched to coaching lawyers, executives and other professionals. The event will be at noon on Thursday, Nov. 29, in the third floor conference room of the Norton Building in downtown Seattle.

Lawyer Deborah Berg, meanwhile, was elected CREW's president for the coming year. Berg, of Tousley Brain Stephens, replaces 2001 president Tracy Lent-Anderson, who works as project manager at Martin Selig Real Estate. Shawn Rush, a principal at the architecture firm Gensler, is the new president-elect. Peggy Emerson became secretary and treasurer.

New board members are: Carleen Kinch, administrator at Olympic Coast Investments; Linda Larabee-Dawson, senior manager at Investco Management Services; Rebecca McIntyre, assistant director at the University of Washington real estate office; Barb Nystrom, property manager at Martin Smith Inc.; Libby Stevenson, assistant vice president at Kennedy & Associates Real Estate Counsel; Helen Wattley-Ames, director of property management at Market Management, Inc.; Gayle Wilder, president of G. Tina Gilbert joined Seneca Real Estate as project manager for the Children's Hospital expansion. Gilbert's 20 years in medical project management include 15 with Turner Construction. She recently worked on pre-construction for a new medical building at Northwest Hospital and for redevelopment of the Rosen Building in South Lake Union. Gilbert holds a B.A. from New England College.

Windermere

Morgan Freeland became a sales associate in Windermere Real Estate's Lakeview office. Freeland previously worked as strategic account manager with Aptimus Inc. Candace Berde and John Coake joined Windermere's Eastlake office as new sales associates. Berde previously taught school in San Francisco. Coake was vice president of operations for @Once in Portland.

Three new sales associates started at Windermere's Capitol Hill office. Dierdre Doyle came from product manager with Progressive International in Kent. Jim Paddleford came from selling homes for Re/Max. The third new associate, Adam Briscoe, remains president of Genius Corp and holds a degree in business and finance from the University of Washington.

Shelley Kelber joined the agency's Wall Street office. Kelber previously worked as an executive recruiter for Kelly Harris Associates in Bellevue.

TSET

Daniel R. Dwight has been named president and CEO of TSET of Lake Oswego, Ore. Dwight will succeed Jeffery D. Wilson as part of a reorganization where TSET will focus on its subsidiary, Kronos Air. Wilson will remain on the board of directors and act as consultant. Kronos develops and manufactures air filtration systems, and is currently re-evaluating its testing of a technology that showed the ability to reduce an active airborne virus similar to anthrax.

Opus Northwest landed Richard Wieneke from Kennedy and Associates Real Estate Council. Wieneke was a Kennedy partner. He worked there from 1981 until this year, leaving as senior vice president responsible for acquisition and development of large office, residential and mixed-use projects in metropolitan areas across the country. Kennedy is a Seattle-based pension and investment advisor. Bellevue-based Opus, one of the area's most active office and industrial developers, hired Wieneke as a senior real estate director in its Seattle office. Wieneke will focus on urban development opportunities in both Seattle and Bellevue that include office, residential, mixed-use and private-public projects, Opus said. Wieneke is a Washington State University economics graduate and he holds an MBA from the University of Oregon.

Also at Opus PJ Santos was promoted to a real estate manager post. Opus said Santos worked on Sammamish Parkplace and Opus Eastpointe, both in Issaquah, as a real estate representative, and he now manages Opus Crossing in Federal Way and is working on other projects.

In addition, Opus hired Tom Cody as real estate director in the firm's Portland office. Cody most recently worked as vice president for D.W. Sivers, a Portland development company. Cody will work on Opus projects in the Portland area called Southwest Center, Cornell West, Opus/205 Distribution Center, Bridgeport Village (aka the Durham Quarry site) and Columbia Gorge Corporate Center.

Kennedy Associates

Kennedy Associates played a role in a $34.7 million construction loan recently issued for a new W Hotel in downtown San Diego. The 19-story hotel will total 263 rooms. Ackman-Ziff Real Estate Group of New York arranged the loan, funded by Multi-Employer Development Partners and Chadwick-Saylor Capital Management. Kennedy manages Multi-Employer, a $525 million development joint venture with publicly traded real estate companies formed in 1999. Gatehouse Capital Corp. is the W Hotel developer.

Vancouver YMCA venture wins award

The Vancouver Housing Authority teamed with the Clark County YMCA to develop an innovative combination of 296 affordable apartments atop a new Y. The apartments are called Springbrook Village. The National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials liked the result enough to give it a 2001 Award of Excellence in Administrative Innovation. The partnership between the housing authority and the Y is the first of its kind in the nation, the association said. "The collaboration added affordable housing stock, gave low-income people opportunities to grow personally and in their family lives, and created a quality recreation facility for the entire community."

Harbor Properties

Three retailers opened at the newly construction northern half of the Harbor Steps apartment complex in downtown Seattle: Holistic Tao, Art of Illustration and SeattleCafe.com. Holistic Tao, part of the Dahn Center of health outlets, provides full-service yoga facilities, including meditation workshops and personal discovery tours. Scott McCallum's Art of Illustration sells original paintings that people have seen in books, magazines, calendars, ads and the like. SeattleCafe is a combined Internet cafe and art gallery that plans to also offer teleconferencing suites.

Law seminar on leasing

Law Seminars International will hold its 13th annual Advanced Commercial Real Estate Leases conference on Dec. 10 and 11 at the Renaissance Madison Hotel in downtown Seattle. Brokers and lawyers will address the needs of landlords, tenants, lenders, brokers and lawyers. Presentations will include basic concepts as well as sophisticated nuances and practical suggestions. Five John L. Scott-Madison Park agents jumped to Windermere Real Estate's Wall Street office, which also hired another six sales associates. Suzanne Charnos, Stacie Ottman, Samantha Patterson, Dan Petesch and Liz Totten came from John L. Scott's Madison Park office. Kyle Ryan came from Coldwell Banker Bain. Kinam Sohn was a practicing CPA. Scott Trotten worked previously with Infinite Possibilities Academy. Deborah Young came from Young and Associates. Windermere identifies Michael Galloway as an experienced commercial broker and Doug McLeod as new to real estate.

Amanda Hoffman became an agent in Prudential MacPherson's Auburn office. Shegufa Haubrich, Kim Maynard, Heidi Hanson and Patricia Lu joined the residential agency's Greenlake office. Dustyn Edler, Marla Pierce, Barbara McMahon, Jay Lind and Tom Callaghan now work as agents in the firm's Lynnwood office. The Seattle North office hired Cynthia O'Hara as assistant manager and Theodore Payton as agent.

Karen McKnight was promoted to team leader for Keller Williams Realty's Bellevue office, to provide training, coaching and recruiting. McKnight was an agent. The 17-year veteran of residential sales passed Keller Williams' 10-step Recruit/Select Process training program. Keller Williams said for the year 2000 she was named among the "100 most powerful women in real estate."
