Comren Construction (2009) Inc. completed all of the steel-stud framing, insulation, drywall, and acoustic wall and ceiling panel work on Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Port Coquitlam near Vancouver, B.C.

Acoustics were of particular concern due to the nature of the church’s activities — sermons, pipe organ music and hymns — and closeness to residential properties. Comren took special care with the detailed work and specific requirements set by the church’s acoustical engineer.

Crews were challenged with framing many small and unusually shaped windows, domed ceilings and window heads.

Finally, Comren suggested alternate products that met strict acoustic and flame-spread ratings while saving money and shortening the construction schedule.

Judge’s comment: “The remarkable architecture of Our Lady of the Assumption gives the feeling of stepping back to a time when cathedrals were designed to be breathtaking and awe-inspiring to those attending worship. As one judge observed, ‘It gives the impression that the hand of God alone supports the expansive arches and magnificent ceilings.’”
