What has happened to our listening skills? Some of our ancient ancestors whose survival depended upon hunting and foraging for food in the wilderness were said to be able to hear a herd of buffalo more than a mile away. Just like them, our survival also depends on a keen listening sense, our business survival that is.
How well do your listening skills measure up? I’m sure you’re going to be a little dismayed when I tell you that according to research by Dr. Ralph Nichols of the University of Minnesota, our average listening efficiency is a paltry 25 percent. Imagine the cost in lost productivity, misunderstandings and relationship breakdowns.
