| Engineer: | Ridolfi Engineers | |
| General contractors: | Remtech | Owner: | National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration |
| Description: |
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration engaged Ridolfi to conduct engineering and related services at Squally Beach and Mowitch site to begin the restoration. Prior to restoration, the Squally site contained hardwood trees, blackberry bushes and a strip of intertidal salt marsh vegetation. The Mowitch site was previously used for log storage and sorting.
The sites required redirection of stormwater to expand the wetland; construction of off-channel pools in a narrow buffer; permitting issues such as ESA compliance; real estate constraints; in-stream work; and soil contamination. Ridolfi worked collaboratively to combine engineering, wetland science and habitat considerations at the restoration sites. The Squally Beach and Mowitch projects were sponsored by multiple stakeholders from federal, state and tribal groups. This led to a synergistic effect that drove the projects to completion. | |
