| Engineer: | Taylor Engineering |
| General Contractors: | Motley-Motley, Inc. | Owner: | City of Pullman |
| Description: |
The project involved design and construction of a 2.6-mile arterial roadway and 2-mile resurfacing in Pullman. The project addressed the need to directly connect the east side of the city to Washington State University and the Pullman-Moscow Regional Airport.
The use of lime-treated base on the fine grain silt and low plasticity clay soils eliminated the need for over-excavation and replacement with ballast and geosynthetics. In addition, complex environmental permitting required the involvement of six federal, state and local agencies. Taylor Engineering brought them together by holding a full-day workshop, including a project overview, bus tour of the site, lunch meeting and brainstorm session. This approach helped develop a sense of ownership for all participants. |
