Schnitzer Steel Industries

Schnitzer Steel Industries named scrap metals trader Alter Goldstein vice president of export sales. Goldstein has more than 30 years of experience working for trading firms, including Philipp Brothers, Amalgamet and Clarendon, and he will focus on the Asian export trading business for Schnitzer's metals recycling operations. The Portland-based company makes finished steel products, recycles ferrous metals and sells used auto parts.

Clark Nuber

Dana Culbertson, an accountant with Clark Nuber, was elected to the board of the Progressive Animal Welfare Society, or PAWS. Clark Nuber is based in Bellevue and provides financial services. PAWS does wildlife rehabilitation, outreach and legislation work in Washington state.

Infinia Corp.

Kennewick-based Infinia Corp., formerly Stirling Technology Co., named Songgang Qiu vice president of research and development. Qiu was director of engineering, a position now filled by Terry L. Smith. Peter Brehm was promoted to vice president of strategic development and government programs. Craig Hosking was promoted to program manager of Infinia's space radioisotope generator program. The company's power systems range from home coolers to power supplies for space exploration vehicles.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

Col. Gregg F. Martin recently assumed command of the Northwestern Division of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Outgoing commander Brig. Gen. William T. Grisoli will be commander and division engineer of the corps' North Atlantic Division in New York City. Martin will be based in Portland and direct nearly $1.8 billion in civil, military and environmental programs in 14 states, including work at the Missouri and Columbia River basins. He was deputy director of operations for the U.S. Army Europe in Heidelberg, Germany, and also commanded an engineering brigade in Iraq.

Davis Wright Tremaine elected its Seattle office partner Stephen M. Rummage as co-chair of the firm's litigation practice. Rummage focuses on complex litigation, class action suits and appeals.

Seattle's Convention and Visitors Bureau

Seattle's Convention and Visitors Bureau appointed Kevin Hylton finance chair of its board of directors. Hylton is chief financial officer for Ackerley Partners and also worked in finance at Nordstrom. The bureau is a nonprofit that works to market Seattle as a place for meetings, conventions and leisure travel.

Habitude Salon, Spa & Gallery

Habitude Salon, Spa & Gallery added Rebecca Partman as general manager. Partman will manage daily operations and strategic planning for the Seattle salon and spa. Partman worked at Metropolitan Travel, before and after it was acquired by Expedia, and was most recently director of operations for Dynamic Events.

Washington Banking

Washington Banking Co., the holding company for Whidbey Island Bank, named Joseph W. Niemer chief credit officer of Whidbey Island Bank. Niemer has more than 30 years of experience and will oversee all credit functions at Whidbey Island Bank. Washington Banking Co. is based in Oak Harbor.

John L. Scott Real Estate

Terry Kohlstrand is the new president of John L. Scott's Affiliate Division, the franchise arm of John L. Scott Real Estate. He is responsible for expanding the company's market share by adding offices in the West. He has 22 years of experience in real estate franchising. He helped grow the Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate network by more than 100 offices. Most recently he was director of franchising for ReMax of California and Hawaii, where he was responsible for opening 100 new franchises. Of John L. Scott's 130 offices, 89 are independently owned, and 41 are owned and operated by John L. Scott Chairman and CEO J. Lennox Scott.

The John L. Scott Foundation helped raise $750,000 for Seattle Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center through the sponsorship of the Warren Moon and Steve Pool Golf Classic last month.

Shelena Patterson has joined the sales team of John L. Scott in University Place.

Eric Blohm and Joshua Stuart have joined Flinn Ferguson, a Seattle real estate company whose specialty is tenant representation. Principal Parker Ferguson says the company, which recently announced the opening of a second regional office in downtown Bellevue, is growing the size of its brokerage team. Blohm most recently was Sabey Corp.'s director of real estate and leasing. He has a bachelor's degree in communications from the University of Puget Sound. Stuart's responsibilities at Flinn Ferguson are serving corporations with large space requirements. He graduated from the University of Washington with degrees in justice and sociology.

Pacland

Pacland, a development services consulting company, is opening a Bellevue office. The move comes in response to a surge of Eastside development, according to the company's Michael Crowson. Pacland also plans to expand its staff. The company, which also has offices in Seattle, Olympia, Portland and Roseville, Calif., works on rural and urban commercial development. Services include project management, site planning, land-use entitlements, civil engineering, landscape architecture, transportation design, and permitting and construction management/administration.

Historic Seattle

Christine Palmer is the new preservation advocate for Historic Seattle, a public development authority and charitable foundation that has helped preserve 45 buildings. Palmer has a master's degree in public historical studies from the University of California at Santa Barbara. Previously, she was a forest historian for the U.S. Forest Service, and city historian for Santa Barbara, Calif.

Hendricks & Partners

Kenny Dudunakis of the Seattle office of Hendricks & Partners negotiated the $13.2 million sale of two Seattle properties: Windsor Court, a 40-unit apartment at 566 Prospect St., and Newport Square, a 56-unit project at 8745 Greenwood Ave. N. Murray Franklyn of Bellevue sold both to Windsor Condominiums LLC of Seattle, which is converting them to condos.

L.J. Melody & Co.

L.J. Melody & Co., the real estate investment banking division of CB Richard Ellis, arranged $22.4 million in financing for two Puget Sound-area apartment properties. It arranged $12 million for Ivy Ridge Apartments. The student housing property, built in 1998, has 150 units. L.J. Melody's Seattle office secured the funding for the transaction. Aegon USA Realty Advisors provided the financing on behalf of Tylee LLC and Su Development. The company secured $10.4 million in 10-year fixed-rate financing for the Cobble Court III Apartments in Pacific. The 171-unit property was built in 1991. The borrower refinanced to capitalize on lower interest rates and access equity in the project. Mary McDonald, director, and Mac McConnico, director, of L.J. Melody's San Francisco office, secured the funding for Cobble Court III LLC, with the loan to be purchased by Freddie Mac.

Northstone Real Estate

Issaquah-based Northstone Real Estate has expanded into Pierce County by opening an office in Orting. Northstone's Dan Darden and Dave Harman decided to open the office when they saw a high level of growth in the area. They hope to work with local agents to attract title and escrow companies to East Pierce County.

DJC columnist Randy Tuminello, managing partner of TrustBuilders International, will speak at CREW's 4 p.m. Aug. 24 educational program. The event is at Sellen Construction, 227 Westlake Ave. N.
