At Orion, safety means more than preventing physical injuries — it includes protecting mental health. In 2022, Orion formally launched its mental health initiative after recognizing that psychological well-being is as critical as physical safety.

The effort began with suicide prevention training through the University of Washington, incentivizing participation with “Safety Bucks.” Today, mental health conversations are integrated into safety meetings, orientations, and quarterly wellness events. Orion also introduced Aiberry, an AI-powered screening tool that provides confidential check-ins and connects employees to care.

In 2024, Orion became the first contractor to license UW’s Forefront Suicide Prevention class in-house, embedding it into onboarding for all new leaders. These programs, along with resources like Talkspace, paid mental health days, and wellness challenges, have normalized conversations and saved lives. Orion isn’t waiting for change — they’re leading it, setting a new standard for mental health in construction.
