Sequoyah Electric
One idea from a safety committee member transformed electrical safety across all Sequoyah job sites. The proposal was simple but powerful: “All metal-clad (MC) cabling and conductors must be made safe before leaving the work area no exceptions.” This eliminated a long-standing hazard of shocks from unprotected or mislabeled conductors and reduced risks tied to testing through metal sheathing, miswiring and backfeeding.
The new standard requires conductors to be securely stored away before leaving any area, with clear labeling and protective measures if termination isn’t complete. Supervisors now perform joint walk-throughs to confirm all systems are safe.
Since implementation, electrical incidents have dropped significantly, communication between crews has improved, and accountability has strengthened. What began as one worker’s bold idea is now a company-wide standard, proving that listening to the field drives meaningful safety innovation.
