Pier 66 Cruise Shore Power

Orion Marine Contractors

The Pier 66 Cruise Shore Power project is one of Washington’s most complex marine electrification efforts. Led by Orion Marine with KBA, Seattle City Light, and the Port of Seattle, the team installed over a mile of high-voltage submarine cable across Elliott Bay, new vaults and ductbanks at Terminal 46, and specialized electrical systems at Pier 66.

Construction took place in Seattle’s busy waterfront, balancing cruise operations, freight activity, ferry traffic, and tribal fisheries. Despite 240 utility conflicts and material delays, the team used innovative solutions like wet-excavation vault installation and fast-track precast procurement to stay on schedule.

Completed in early 2025, Pier 66 now powers three cruise ships with clean energy, cutting emissions and making Seattle a global leader in sustainable port operations.
